Ethics

The point of research is to find the truth. Without ethics research and writing could be very dangerous. When writing and researching one should be ethical just as they would when giving a speech. No one would want to get up and tell lies to an audience. At least those who were honest would not do so. It is the same with writing. Even if the audiece cannot be seen and does not seem very real there is indeed an audience who will read the material. It seems so obvious, yet I think it is easy for people to write and forget that writing is not just a personal matter.

We are responsible to give people credit for what we have used. It just makes sense that people should be given credit for the work they spent such time and effort on. Also giving credit to our sources gives us as the writer more credit. Who wants to read a research paper that does not have reliable information to back it up?

We owe it to our readers to give them the access to more information on the research topic. Also they simply just deserve to know the truth. We must avoid plagarism because if we do not then it will create confusion and hurt our ethos. Once again plagarism is just simply dishonest and when we write we need to be sure to distinguish what comes from us and from others.

  1. I liked what you said about it being our responsibility to cite sources, to gave credit to those that did all the work and to also lend credibility to our own work. Writing to an audience does make the writer responsible for reporting the facts in a truthful way, with proper credit given to the individuals who had the ideas in the first place. Well said Courtney!

  2. Thanks! It is hard sometimes to format and such to give proper credit, but it is worth it-even for the writer. Not that that should be their main reason for doing so.
