Obama's Healthcare Plan

An issue that is constantly being debated today is President Obama’s healthcare plan. In his youtube video “The Obama Plan in Four Minutes”, Obama explains his plan for healthcare. This video can be found at: http://www.barackobama.com/issues/healthcare/. In his video, the President makes a few claims that are aimed at convincing the American people that his plan for healthcare will be the most cost-effective and best way to ensure healthcare for everyone. One of the main claims that Obama makes is that universal healthcare will not increase taxes. This claim is initially unacceptable because providing healthcare for every American, no matter what their economic status, seems impossible without increasing taxes. Obama states that his healthcare plan will not add more money to our already substantial national debt and will make healthcare affordable to all Americans. He seems to avoid this issue by focusing his argument on how great our new healthcare system will be, without addressing the price tag. Throughout his argument, I can see the benefits of Obama’s plan, yet I am unable to tell how exactly all these new reform programs will make healthcare more affordable. Maybe I just don’t know the specifics of Obama’s plan, but it seems to me that by making healthcare cheaper for someone, it makes taxes go up for someone else. Although Obama’s claim states that healthcare will be cheaper for all, I fail to see how this could actually happen without increasing taxes at some point.

  1. Personally I am against Obama's health care plan. In every country that has universal health care, it fails. Look at Canada and Australia for example. There are huge waiting lists for surgeries and most people have really bad teeth because braces and things like it aren't considered "health" so it is really expensive to get them. The reason that there are huge lines is becuase doctors aren't paid as much so the dont feel that it is worth it to work more than what they are being paid for. And it will increase taxes. Making this move to universal health care will just move America one gaint step closer to socialism. And as great as socialism sounds it never works. Look at history and the present examples, it just doesn't work.

  2. I completely agree with you Chelsea. In theory socialism would make a dandy place to live, but in actual practice it has failed miserably. Obama's healthplan could not possibly reduce any cost. Mainly because Obama is a democrat and is more likely to tax the citizens then take the money from the government. Oh and let me add that if he just uses goverment spending to pay for his outrageously priced plan, well that will only increase America's already exponentially growing debt...can you say bail out plans and stimulus packages?

  3. I think the reason why some many poeple love Obama is becuase he is a great speaker. Well, just becuase you are a great speaker doesn't mean you actually are a great preson. I mean, Hilter made good speaches too. Becuase of his speaches Hitler was able to convince a nation, a nation deep in depression and debt and poverty and shame because of the WWI, to rise up and go to war and kill millions of poeople. The people of Germany were deperate for some relief and when Hitler came with his great speaking skills, he offered them hope. So the poeple of Germany took hold of it and went with it, but look where that lead them. The same thing type of thing is happening with Obama. Granted it isn't on the same scale as with Hilter but the same principles apply. The people of America wanted hope (and didn't Obama use that as his campaign slogan?) and Obama with his great speach making skills offered hope. The people of America took it and are now running with it. But where is this leading us? Will all be like lemmies and run off the cliff together? Will Obama actually do something good for this nation instead of making empty promises? Will he push us closer and closer to socialism? Will he put the Consitution at risk (which is one of the signs of the second coming, that the Constitution of this nation will be shaken) with his far left ideals? Only time will tell.

Wow I went on a little bit of a rant there. I apologize if I have offended anyone. Theses are my current views and I am just voicing them. And you have the right to disagree with them.

  4. Hey Chelsea
I have to agree in the way he really avoided the "But what about?" questions that came to our mind as he talked, like how are we going to pay for this with out debt or raising taxes huge for the working middle class! (but he has done that through out his whole campaign and presidency so whats new....) but I think that its very important that when you are trying to state a claim on a issue like Obama is trying to do... that you don't just rely on having a good speaking abilities.... lol unless he can use those sweet speaking abilities to talk us out of debt after this ridiculous plan takes off.... (man usually when something goes wrong in our country I joke and say Im moving to Canada... but we are becoming like Canada!! :( no offense to you Canadians.... beautiful country.... terrible Medical)

  6. As with everyone else on this post I agree with Chelsea. One of my favorite quotes on the issue is "the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other peoples money." You cant subsidize health care for some without it coming at the expense of others, if not everybody.

  7. Wow, I couldn't agree more with all of you. I think it's interesting/ridiculous how if people like one political figure, they blindly follow everything they say. Look at the issues people! His plan will not work. Thanks for agreeing everyone(:

  8. Wow I feel loved, people actualy agree with me for once. I am from the Seattle area so most people are liberal or very Democratic so no one listens to me there.

Something that my American Hertiage professor said the other day is that we can't mistake the outcomes with the motivation and think someone is good/bad based on their motivations/outcomes. Which is what is happening with Obama. He has all of these great "motivations/outcomes" so many people believe he is a great person and thence follow him blindly. (Not saying he isn't a good person but more that he is very much human and his plans for this nation are a nit out of wack). Some peopel are idealizing him so much that he is almost like a "God" figure (if that makes any sense). People need to remember that he can't fix every problem and that he is as human as the rest of us.

    Ty,
I used to say the same thing about moving to Canada but one I finally realized that they were socialist... I revised my statement. I need to find another country I can move to.
