Rexburg has Issues

Issue 1: Parking

If you thought that the parking at BYU was bad BYU-I is horrible. There are extremely few designated parking lots which has caused an over flow into the public parking domains.

Issue 2: sub divisions

My home town is very small and open. How ever the recent influx of people has led to generally uncontrolled expansion. This has caused both logistical and scenic problems.

Issue 3: Public Schools

Along with an increase of the population there has been increased demand placed upon the Public school which have become increasingly overwhelmed.

Issue 4: Traffic

Rexburg was initially designed with low traffic roads that have been unable to meet the demands of the current population.

Issue 5: Snow removal

High snow levels coupled with high speed winds have led to difficult navigation across roads that are not regularly plowed Community: home town Rexburg

  1. My parents, who are both teachers have trouble parking at school, which is ridiculous. They end up walking instead. I can imagine it's worse for you because you live out of town.

Most of the issues you cited seem like they have arisen from the population boom caused by the expansion of the university. That in combination with Rexburg's reflectance towards new legislation make for some big problems. Do you think Rexburg will overcome it's small-town mindset?

  2. I believe that it will but it wont be the older generation who do it. They are too used to it being a small rural town. As the problems gets worse and leadership changes Rexburg will be forced to adapt. But I also think part of the responsibility lies at the door of the university. It was after all their expansion, and they failed to provide the adequate parking.

  3. I pity you. The snow removal issue sounds awful. They should take a lesson from the BYU grounds crew, who is so good at their job that BYU has never had a snow day. I wouldn't mind if they just "forgot" to shovel one of these days...
