In-Class Rush Write

Evaluate the current state of your rhetorical analysis draft. What works well? What do you wish you'd had time to do on it before class? Is your incorporation of at least one visual effective? etc.

  1. Well, my rhetorical analysis is on paper which is a really good start for me. I wish I had more time to read through it and revise it more, instead of just putting it all on paper. I like my format just because that is how the blog I am analyzing looks like. I think my visual is effective, at least for me. It gets the attention and is an interesting picture making you want to see what the picture has to do with the rest of the paper. I think I need to work on just being specific and not restating the sames things over again, just in a different way. So just making it more clear and precise. But I also think I need to expand on more of my reasoning or just delete that reason and focus more on the others. In all, it's still a work in progress.

  2. My rhetorical analysis draft seems somewhat dry to me. I am having a hard time figuring out the balance between the facts of the analysis, and the readability that should come with it. Maybe it is just because I don't find things like this interesting, so I keep trying harded. I'm just not quite sure how to do it. I really like how we can include pictures and links to our site to help enhance what we are trying to say. It will definately help me when I go to put them in the final draft since i am trying to explain things that are visual.

  3. The current state of my rhetorical analysis is very rough. I had trouble deciding what format to do mine in so that held back my work a bit. I feel that the form I chose actually makes it more interesting than I initially believed. I think that I transition well between segments. The form that I used has allowed me to blend content from the website (as well as the purpose of the website) with rhetorical analysis in a fun and interesting way. I wish that I had more time to polish the new media usage (pictures, links, videos, etc.) but I know that my final product will be polished.

Here is what I hope to do for the final draft: polish out the prose, fix all the links and images, incorporate more rhetorical analysis within my writing, and make it more captivating to read.

  4. I think that my draft has good points in it, but maybe too many. I probably need to pick a few and really expound upon them. Also the flow and organization could usse some work. Some of the visual things work well, but I need to sharpen that up also. I honestly do not know if my main visual is effective, but I think so. Not really sure what else I should put besides the Geico's icon.

  5. hmmmm..... well I heard that it really good if you improve... and thats good, because I think I probably left lots of room for improvement! I tried using the creativity of the recipe idea and Braden and Myself will probably make a fun little web page which should be good. I wish I had time to better find new media to put in it! I will be searching and studying some out over the next week. I was not able to decide on a visual yet although I have a few downloaded onto my computer... I need to find the right one.

  6. Well, my blog is lacking about 250 words so... I still need to work on that. I still have a lot to say though, so I'm not worried about the length. The truth is I procrastinated. Also, I need to add more examples to what I already have written, and I haven't incorporated a visual yet, but I kind of have an idea of what I want to use. I'm still not sold on my method of organization... maybe I'll use subheadings. Anyway, I like that I'm analyzing the blog as a whole and using lots of different examples instead of analyzing just one article. I have so much more to work with.
My visual will probably just be examples of the visuals used in the blog so I can better explain my analysis.

  7. It's going so well it's ridiculous. I suppose if I had time to work on it, I would smooth out my tone and organize the essay a little better.

I like my visuals (although one is blocked by BYU's firewall for "nudity", which I think is pretty cute).

  8. My rhetorical analysis draft is currently struggling. I told myself that I was going to get up early this morning to finish it, but I decided that I valued my sleep more than my draft. Right now my draft still needs to be completed and the parts that I have finished definitely need to be revised. I did incorporate one visual into my draft, which I think is helpful, but there are other visuals from the video that I would like to add. Is there some way to copy and paste still shots from the video?

  9. My current state of my rhetorical analysis is very rough. The deadline kinda snuck up on me and I wish I had been more prepared and managed my time better. But at this moment I feel my overall topic is too broad and I need to focus more on one thing. I like the idea that we can include pictures and use creative formating to get our point across.

  10. my major problem so far is not making it a counter argument against the addendum. i have to remember to keep my focus on the tools used to convey the message. also trying to portray it in new media has proved to be harder then imagined. i figure i could make it a website with links and stuff but i have to make sure what ever i do it adds to the analysis, other wise there is no point. when analyzing the tools of rhetoric it is hard not to just make it a boring list. i have to make it interesting to read while still covering all bases of assignment. I want to include links to other texts that share many of the same elements but i am afraid that by doing so i might detract from the text i am analyzing. but i think a visual is rather easy to incroperate.

  11. Well last week and this week have been insanely and crazy busy for me so I have had almost no time to think about or work on my draft until last night. I wrote it all before I finally passed out on my bed. I haven't even looked completely through it once yet. Its current state is: needed improvement. I really need to develop and clarify my analysis a little bit more.

I have yet to add images but I do have plans to add them (as stated in the appropraite spots in my analysis). I know what I want to do I just need to complete it all and do lots of revising before D-day.

  12. Weeeell, I think the status of my rhetorical draft is unfinished. Good thing it's a draft. I tried to make it entertaining to read and follow her cake blog patterns. I mostly wanted to see if I could make it interesting and include all that I need to include. I had a particularly difficult time with some parts though and would have liked to have spent more time trying to get all of my ideas in the same jargon. I ended up just writing parts of it like a semi-formal paper that I hope to be able to fix later. Or perhaps most of it is just too informal and I will have to fix that part. I also had this amazing thought just now that I should try incorporating the blogger like she incorporates the people who send in the cake pictures to her. So instead of saying, "Jen, the blogger, uses metaphors like this...blah blah blah..." I could just name drop her name in there. More like, "...blah blah blah, and I think Jenn would agree...". It might not work though, I would have to try it out. I did incorporate a visual effect. I tried to give a specific example for each rhetorical device on a certain cake. So I would label it as if it was a post then write something then put the picture then write some more.

  13. I think that my draft did well concerning answering all the questions, but it needs to expand upon the details. I also think I did an adequate job at creating an engaging tone - I was trying to imitate the casual, flippant air that the article itself had, which often provides a more gripping read. I think I should also revise my conclusion - it seems to me that the ending was too abrupt. I wish I had had time to make my analyses more profound. My draft probably could have also had room for analysis of another rhetorical device or two.
